REMEMBERING REAGAN

I learned a great deal by being at President Reagan's side for eight years as his Vice President. I learned a lot about humor, more importantly about decency, honor, and patriotism.

I learned about kindness to others, for Ronald Reagan would never pass a person by without asking how he was doing, how the family was. He would always say "Thanks," too.

Adherence to principle was something else I learned about. Like any President, Ronald Reagan had to compromise on certain matters, but he did that without departing from his fundamental beliefs.

President Reagan's rhetoric was often condemned by the liberal media and by the establishment elite. Whether it was words "Evil Empire" or "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" the media went into a liberal frenzy saying that this rhetoric would ruin chances for peace. How wrong they were. The people of the captive nations were given great hope by President Reagan, and so was much of the world.
